I have a new Power Tap Pro and wheel set only because it was given to me through an awards program. After I got it I did purchase the WKO software and was overwhelmed so I bought the Book Training with a Power Tap. Still overwhelmed.
A lot to learn and probably will never use it to it's fullest extent as I am not a hard rider and cannot keep up with the faster guys in our area. If I figure out how to use it and understanding the graphs and see that I am doing better because of the Power Tap then maybe worth it. But I don't think I would ever buy one at my stage in life.
I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. I'd love to have a power meter just to geek out with the numbers if nothing else but objectively that would only be entertaining for a short while. Were I seriously training, I'd get one in a heartbeat, regardless of whether the bike or engine was any good but as it is, not likely to happen.
