Cantys or Disc brakes?

I am in the process of ordering a custom steel road frame but keep going back and forth about the type of brakes to use. Initially I was leaning toward cable actuated disc brakes. Then I was advised that they would require a stiffer fork and chainstay thus affecting the ride quality. Lately I am leaning toward cantys later upgrading to Paul components cantys or U brakes.

My objectives for this bike are; a light, comfy, bike that can grow with me. I will be using it to commute 22 miles round trip, run errands and recreational rides of 30 or more miles. It needs to be able to carry a light pannier or two. I will be using 650b wheels with 32 - 37mm tires and fenders.

Any constructive thoughts in regards to frame requirements and ride and other pros and cons of each brake would appreciated.
