As for the Campy left-hand downtube shifters... what is on the band, where you'd expect the right-hand shifter?
Right-hand only shifter bosses were often brazed to the frame in the 50's, when front derailleurs weren't so common. A lot of early fd's didn't use a shifter. When cable-operated fd's became common, there was a band that would clamp over the brazed-on boss. Such bands have a pretty big hole on the right side.
