**** you. I drive taxi full time and I'm more than happy to open doors, walk old people up stairs, lift luggage into the trunk for weary travelin' folks, turn the meter off when we're stuck at train crossings, etc. I love telling people about my town, the lakes, the good restaraunts and bars, etc. Get this-- people appreciate it.
When a passenger makes a stop they often ask if I need anything-- a soda or water or gum or smokes. People haveoffered me beer on liquor store runs, which I gladly accept, toss in my mess bag and save for later.
Working in the service industry is like that. I don't have to be nice to you, ask how you're doing, give directions or humor your bible-thumping routine, but I do because more often than not-- people appreciate it and tip well. It makes the customers happy, I feel good, and the tips rock.
Tell me you've never tipped a service industry worker well and had it reciprocated. You're either a cheapskate, or you're lying.
