If you want good solvent for chain cleaning (except maybe in California) go to the hardware store and buy naphtha. It's very similar to clear mineral spirits, except it dries slightly faster.
Paint thinner is ok too right? That's what I've been using lately as it's a lot cheaper than mineral spirits.
