Has anyone ever had a driver misinterpret a left-hand turn, hand signal as a “pass me signal?” It seems to happen to me a lot more than it should. I’ve been lucky enough to have never gotten hurt but as you can imagine this could definitely lead to some nasty accidents. I also think that the driver in this situation would never get cited because it would be too easy to blame on the cyclist.
For the most part, I don't use hand signals. Not just because of a balance issue. But also because, I get the feeling that when I have used hand signals, motorists' thought I was drunk. The only hand signal(if it could really be called that) I use with consistency is, waving my in a motion indicating to pass me, when I am stopped at the side of the road.
