Not just Shimano Crane RDs. Your Superior came with a Suntour VGT luxe, just like mine. There is a special tabbed washer that fits that indentation, don't lose it!!
You can see the tab on mine in this picture. The washer makes the dropout compatible with any standard rear derailleur:

My Superior came with no such thing. I found it as a bare frame.......NOS still in the box. I discovered it at an old bike shop going out of biz sale. It came with nothing save for the headset cups, which I removed and sent to BF member, Pastor Bob. This frame does not have the mount for the kickstand, it came from the factory with a proper chainstay bridge.
