i think i would ask the mech as to why they won't work. and request details. after all he's the one with the information. and has had, i assume, first hand experience trying to make it work. unless his response was just theoretical.
in the manual for the RD it says the maximum sized cog it can take is 34T.
i should have mentioned earlier... the mechanic emailed me this information at the end of the business day as it has been obvious that I've been eager to pick the bike up. i plan on asking him for the best explanation he can offer, but thought i'd ask for a second opinion here so i know a bit more about what I'm talking about when that conversation occurs.
ill look into the min/max tooth count- tbh i dont know what that is (that's the sort of thing i want to avoid when talking to the mechanic- it's much easier to ask stupid questions on the internet)
