Today I went on my FIRST bike ride since August 17, 2012. On that day I did something stupid, crashed the bike, broke my left hand in three places, and hurt my shoulder.

I had surgery a few days after the crash to insert 3 pins in my hand. Seven weeks later the pins were removed. Between the time of the first surgery and second surgery I had pretty intensive physical therapy. After the second surgery I continued with physical therapy for several more weeks. Obviously I couldn't ride during that time. By the time I could have ridden it was October and was too cold for me. My hand still hasn't completely gone back to normal but I suppose being 60 years old has something to do with it.
My first bike ride went well. I only rode two miles but I had to test out the hand and shoulder. The hand was fine, no pain or problems. My shoulder was a little tender. I couldn't ride any longer because it got dark. I think the spin classes I've been attending twice a week since January have been very therapeutic. I don't know how much riding I'll get in for a while. Although it was 70 degrees today, March in Minnesota usually means blizzards or tons of snow. I think we are going to have to "pay" for this weather somehow.
But I can't wait to get out there and ride some distance. I still plan on riding the MS150.
