I fixed the privacy setting at Flickr, so it should work now. Sorry to put you out so.

Half, eh? Well, lessee...

The following items are standard regardless of temperature, but thicker/winter in bold.
  • Short sleeve jersey
  • Bib shorts
  • Skull cap
  • Socks
  • Heart rate monitor
  • Gloves
  • Thin merino base layer

The following items I do not think controversial at 34 F. I don't think that most cyclists, even those on this thread, have bare arms/legs at 34 F.
  • Arm warmers
  • Leg warmers
  • Wind vest

That leaves three items that have the Road BF aghast:
  • LS merino base layer
  • Wind jacket
  • Windtex sock covers

The socks covers are thin, and aren't going to cause any overheating. That leaves the insulation of the merino base layer and the wind jacket. The merino provides the insulation, and the jacket blocks the wind. The jacket is light, and stuffs small if it is not needed.

I started out cold, but got comfortable after about 5 miles. I did not overheat, and didn't take a single item off for about two hours. Some around me without the equivalent of the wind jacket complained of being cold.

Maybe the difference is that on our tandem we go faster, and have to push more cold wind than the bare arm crowd here. For example, on a flat 8 mile segment on our own we averaged 20.5 mph.
