Let's assume your "seat height" is reasonable. The other adjustments available include the fore/aft position of the seat and the tilt. Both of these can affect comfort significantly because they will determine where on the saddle your butt naturally wants to ride. You mention a training ride so I assume you have a road bike. If you have a more upright position that can have an effect and may help determine the choice of saddle.

Offhand, i doesn't sound like the saddle is right and you've already ordered a replacement. Whichever saddle you keep on the bike, dig out some info on saddle adjustment, make small changes at a time until you get it right.
