ah ha! pin pointed my noise!
So, it's not my pedals at all that are making a creaking noise.
If I sit on my bike, with the pedals parallel to the floor, push hard, rock back, push hard, rock back, it replicates the exact same sound I hear when I'm going up hills, or when I'm out of my saddle. It happens both when my foot is on the pedal, and when it's pushing on the crank arm itself... so I know it's not the pedal making that noise. Happens with both crank arms... that is, when they are parallel with the floor, and when I push forward on the cranks.
Is this a sign that the "cups" need tightened? I'm not sure if they're actually cups. The bike is on a 2007 Trek 1500, I believe it's a BB 5500 bottom bracket. Quite possible that the threads might need to be regreased I'm guessing? It has been a while since I've had the bottom bracket serviced. I took a video of it, you can hear it in the video... wondering if I should just post to youtube or something?
