Well, that is how I usually determine what to wear, there is another school of thought. That is to wear enough to be warm, then after you start heating up, take a layer or two off. Depending on the ride, I might choose one way over the other.
When it is really cold outside, I will wear enough to be warm while off of the bike, then about a mile down the road, I will pull over and take a layer off.
I'd do that for longer rides maybe when I'd expect to warm up a lot and the weather to warm up as well. On a 40 minute commute I don't want to stop to rearrange my clothing and I don't warm up enough as well. It takes me way over an hour to build up enough heat for that. But, as we always say, everybody is different.

I've been thinking about commuting since last summer, the break down was the kick in the rear that i needed.
It was a lot easier and faster then i expected.
I'm in no hurry to fix the Jeep.
