I also switched the cassette to 11-23, and it makes it feel much more efficient. If you're concerned about hills, an 11-25 may be better, but an 11-28 was just too "mountain-bikey" for me and I felt like I gave up a lot of useful mid-range gears.

Keep the carbon fork. It's plenty strong.
