There was a hub many years ago that had a keyhole where the spokes went through the hub,so that you could use a regular spoke.I don't remember who made them,but it was a great idea.I don't know why somebody doesn't make something like that now,too easy I guess.

The s-bend in a spoke used to be the norm,but all the the smart people seemed to have died.....most people seem to think you have to have $500 hubs in order to make things easy these days.Just throw money at the problem,that will make it better.
