I've an old schwinn sports tourer w/ 27" steel wheels, centerpull brakes and 5spd rear cog from around the late 70's. I want to build a 700c wheel set w/ 8spd rear cog(16spd). first question, will these 700c wheels w/ 8spd cog fit on my frame? also, I want to run side pull brakes. I've already determined that they will not reach the old 27" rims. will they work with the 700c rim? I would like mount the shifters on the downtube. Are there any clamp-on shifters available? Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
