It will take about the same amount of effort work and parts money to change to either a single speed with drops or a geared bike with drops. Either way there will be significant problems difficulties that will prove costly to work around. I agree that it may be cheaper and better to flip sell the bike and buy a single speed you can find fairly nice used ones starting at about $125 and new from about $200.
