There are skate-style helmets built to the skateboard standard ASTM F1492 (a.k.a. skate helmets), skate-style helmets built to the CPSC bicycle standard 16 CFR Part 1203 (a.k.a. bike helmets), and even a few skate-style helmets available which pass both standards (a.k.a. multi-sport helmets). The sticker(s) inside new helmets says what it was designed and tested to. Hours of reading here.
