This shows my solution to the tools to remove the cassette. I have only ever broken drive side spokes and this is a cheap alternative to buying the tools you need, as well as a lighter and smaller set of tools. Sure you can make do with less but I have found these tools very useful and use them at home to change cassettes.
That L shaped piece of steel strap to fit in the half inch drive is a good idea. Thanks for sharing.

I instead filed down two of the flats on the cassette tool so that my small crescent (adjustable) wrench would fit on it.
