I had inquired in a previous thread about quality levels of bearings for the BB30 and someone mentioned to me to look into the ABEC 5 standard as replacements rather than the ABEC 1 which Felt did the build with.
Through the shop a set of the 1 bearings cost less than $30. The 5 bearings and adapter COST over $100 sold as a bike specific bearing. I note looking online that ABEC 5 bearings can cost as low as $10 or so ea. from a bulk supplier (like Dixie Bearing).
So, question is what size are the bearings in the BB30, and is there something special about the housing or the bearing as "bike specific" that would justify this more than considerable price difference?

My thoughts were to remove the 1, take it to the supply house and purchase the "better" bearing from them for a few dollars and save myself a good amount of cash for the better bearings. The only issue that I see is the lack of the supplied retainer clip, but I don't see any reason I could not re-use the one in the BB now.
Is there something I may not know that would prevent this as a possibility?
