I always got the impression that there is a small group of riders (of which GMJ is part of that collective) that are impressive in their ability to hold a speed/gear ratio over a long (beyond a simple sprint) distance.

I went out with some friends Thursday evening and during a mile sprint, was able to hold them off me up until the last 200 or so yards (two blocks) because, ultimately, I was spinning so fast that my ass started to skip a bit around the saddle. They said I maxed out somewhere around 29 and my legs were a blur to them. Where I was surprised is that they caught me at 23 MPH. I was slowing significantly, even though I didn't feel any different. My normal "cruising" speed is somewhere near 14-16 MPH. I'm running 42/16.

GMJ and those cats are a lot younger than me, so I assume they can probably easily hold 24+MPH.
