In 1964 through 1967 I worked at a full service Mobil station. We pumped gas, checked the oil, vacuumed the floors, and checked/aired up the tires. All the while smoking a filterless Lucky strike which had been lit with a Zippo filed with regular. Never in all that time did I blow up a car. Perhaps static sparks are a new phenomenon?
