I checked my kids bike and my wife's little shopping cruiser. They both seem to be set up that way. But my five year old (almost dead sadly) cheap mtb I use only for baby carrying and shopping duty was always setup with the front brake on the right from day one. Go figure. I just swapped the new one to be the same. It just feels strange otherwise.
