This thread is just teeming with ideas. I just tried the rope trick on a cassette which worked fine. I believe a polyester strap would work just as well. The lock nut tool is heavy at over 100 grams but it can be drilled out to about half the weight. It would be tedious but simple to make a hex opening in aluminum flat bar to fit over the cassette tool.
