I commuted about 1000 miles last year on my upgraded UO8. But riding faster, err, I mean stiffer and lighter frames lately has made me appreciate the UO8 for what it isn't as much as for what it is. It carries lights and a rack, has somewhat wider tires than my speed rides. It goes anywhere. If by "best" you mean best utility bike also good for sport riding, the UO8 hard to beat. If by "best" you mean best bike for riding a metric century, it's not the bike in my stable I'd choose by choice. But I'd choose it if my other bikes weren't available that day, such as for example being loaned out to Kate Upton so she could come along, though my wife might not like that choice either.
