Update:

I take back all the evil thoughts I had about Sturmey Archer. I finally reached the guy at SA US. He said that some hubs did have a problem in production. He is sending me new innards which I will change (I definitely don't want to unlace my wheel to send the whole thing back). Very helpful guy, and after talking with him a few hours ago I already got an email from UPS with a tracking number.
