I commute on a Windsor Clockwork that I got for about $300. I added good platform pedals, fenders, and good lights for another $250. I have a great time riding fixed WITH brakes all year long. I really like commuting on a fixie because it can handle any weather and it makes me a much, much stronger rider on my road bike. It has really done wonders to smooth out my pedal stroke and increase my cadence. It's one of my best purchases yet.
