I think a used Kona ***** Inc might be just what you're looking for. A bit more aggressive than a touring frame, relatively lightweight (carbon fork, cromo frame), 105/Ultegra and BB7s. The 2011 model is an oddball, with steeper geometry and low headtube, and the 2009/2010/2012 are a bit more upright with plenty of room for bigger tires and fenders. I just purchased a new 2012 model, and I'm thoroughly impressed. Great rain commuter. No triple, though, so you'd have to figure in the price of a swap.
