SMP Lite 209 Review

Okay, I've had this one for about 6 weeks and seems about time to post a few thoughts.

I'm coming from an Spec Avatar 143. Also have Aliante regular and VS (pretty new...going to sell if anyone is interested, PM me).

I had a Glider several years ago...hated it. Could not get that thing set up to save my life and sold it off after a short time.

The 209 is a bit heavier than I would have liked and I considered the Dynamic based on Hoggs' article. I called the US distributor, who is located locally and spoke with him about my needs. He pointed directly to the 209 without my suggesting any particular model. He told me this is his most popular seller right now. Funny, the bike still feels lighter with it than the Avatar.

It has taken me a while to get it dialed in. I have it at 4 degrees on a Tompson zero setback post. I've been between 2-1/2 to 4 for the most part. I ride a Giant OCR2 that is not set up in a aggressive position.

I've been carrying around a wrench and made lots of adjustments and think I finally have it. But like all saddles, it seems to take a lot of rides! And the changes I have been making are micro, micro, micro.

Even from the get-go, it was better than the Glider. I have not had any of the "sitting on rails" problems. My issues with it have been more just general comfort; not being thrown forward, positioning the cut out right.

Longest ride so far is about 54 miles. I've got a century coming up in May.

SMP literature says this is the most padded of the Forma line. I will tell you that doesn't mean it's a sofa cushion. It's solid as a rock, more so than the Aliante so don't let that throw you. You will not sink into it! (I'm 5'9, about 150 lbs for comparison's sake).

I purchased it from We Keep You Cycling on sale. They responded to my e-mailed questions about the saddle and their shipping was excellent.
