Hard to tell in this pic, but the cable goes underneath the washer in the groove on the end of the twin "arms" coming out from the outer plate:

Sorry for that FD shot - best I have. I guess I never concentrate on the FD as much as the RD in my photos

BTW, what is that you're assembling? It looks like it has beautiful paint and nice, shiny bits whatever it is!
