That isn't weird, it's a common mistake of inexperienced climbers. They stand in the same gear they have used while seated, increase their cadence because they are recruiting more muscles to the task, and surprise surprise, their heart rate goes through the roof.

Next time you are going to stand, change up one or two gears, into a harder gear, immediately before you get out of the saddle. Stand straight up, lean forward as little as possible, and keep your cadence lower than it was while you were seated. This way you should maintain a similar speed, and use very little more energy, while giving some of your muscles a break. If you ever use a stepping machine like a stairmaster at a gym, that's the sort of rhythm you're looking for.

Standing to accelerate is another thing, but save that for when you are feeling strong and wanting to sprint past someone, or are very near the top.
