Bikes: Giant Defy 2

That's a very interesting perspective. I also just picked up a hybrid and put lights and racks on it. Even with my commute going from 7 miles one way down to 2 miles; twice a day I won't spin a starter. Twice a day I won't have to force oil into the top of an otherwise dry cylinder head. My car is just about paid off and should be in the 40,000 mile range for the next 10 years. LOL.
I just put 40 miles and 2500 feet of elevation on this simple little Trek. Not to bad for a guy in his 50's just starting out. Even though I've been really interested in all this in the last 10 months, a switch flipped in my head today. I think I'm going over the top.
Appreciateyour insight and approach.

If the bike costs 1300 then at 2600 miles it would have cost you 50c/mile (Not counting maintenance) Your goal should be to get it down to about a quarter within the first year of owning it.
