I have a Trek road bike now and love it. I am on my second Giant. I have a Giant Escape 1.
As far as the trek 7000 series, I'm just not hip on low dollar suspension bikes. There has got to be a reason for seemingly getting so much for so little. Anyway, I appreciate the feedback from the road. I can't say I've ridden one (Trek FX or 7000) but the sleeper for now is the Giant Escape 1. We need more of these here. It is made more for swift transportation in the city. Has a less roll resistant and puncture resistant 32C tires on a 36 spoke wheel so it is well suited for crashing off curbs and running through glass. I readily accepts the Topeak MTX rack and trunk systems and it has an extra gear. Here's some pics for you.
