I don't plan on riding at night, but I might find myself riding at dusk, when I don't really need a headlight to see where I'm going, but I would like a red taillight for better visibility. So I sewed a loop on my rack bag to allow hanging a planet bike blinkie, as shown below. My rack actually has a bracket for attaching a taillight, but this bracket is obscured by the rackbag, when tends to hang down at the rear.

As for the comments about the light needing to be perfectly aligned, I see plenty of cyclists riding around my town at night with red blinkies strapped to their backpacks and no other lights, and they are plenty visible. Modern LED red lights do NOT need to be perfectly aligned to give visibility from the rear or sides. If sewing a loop to your rack back is not an option, then I'd recommend a belt of 1" nylon webbing tied around your shirt/sweater/coat, with the blinkie fitted to this belt (the planet bike blinkie has a plastic attachment bracket that works well with 1" webbing).

Another thing. Since I seldom use this taillight, it mostly just sits in my saddle bag. The saddle bag contains tools and I'm frequently rummaging in there, thus it would be easy to accidently turn on the blinkie so that the batteries ran down. To prevent this, I put a piece of paper at one end of each battery. When and if I ever use the blinkie, I'll remove these pieces of paper. Also, I use lithium batteries, since these have a longer shelf life (it could be years between uses of this taillight, at the rate I ride in the dark). Lithium also works better in cold temperatures, and temperatures can be pretty cold at dusk in the desert in late autumn and winter, which is where and when I plan to do most of my future touring.
