One of the first things I changed on my '87 Centurion was the wheels. The original rims have a very thin profile and are impossible to
get a tire off and on without tools. I replaced them with newer drop center rims and cassette type hubs and I use folding tires.
I just took a test ride today with compact 50/34 FSA cranks, Sram 9 spd cassette, Taigra brifters. Front DR is Shimano 600, rear is
Deore LX. What a joy to ride.
