Thanks for your help! After examining the entire bike out of frustration for a while, I noticed that the top tube is just slightly slimmer than the downtube. Maybe I'll be able to mount the dt shifters there, which will also eliminate the problem about rerouting the cables, as they're originally meant to go across the top tube.
