Or if memory serves, if he wants to use his new 9 speed shifters with his 7 speed freewheel (I'm assuming freewheel and not freehub which is why I said he'd need a new wheel), he should be able to just do the alternate cable routing like for 8 speed DA, set his limit screws for his freewheel, and go with what he has right now, right? If that works, his cost apart from what he has right now is just cables, housing and bar tape if I'm reading things right.
