I am not sure how much of it is targeting cyclists vs ignorance. On my way home last night, I am on the street where I live, approaching my driveway which is on the left. The street has a speed limit of 25mph, and I had been going ~20, but was slowing in preparation for my turn, and am situated near the middle of the street. I am signalling my left turn with my arm pointing out to the left, and I hear an engine rev behind me as a pickup truck accellerates to pass me on the left. Was the pickup driver targeting me? Had I made my left and been squished under his truck, I am sure that he would have said that I swerved into his path. Was the pickup driver ignorant of what an arm pointing to the left means? (perhaps he thought that I was telling him to pass me on the left) - Either way, his targeting me, or his ignorance placed my life in jeopardy.

The source of my anti motorist bias is the huge imbalance in the consequences of bad driving. If I do something stupid and get hit by a truck, I go to the hospital, and the truck driver has to wash his vehicle. If the truck driver does something stupid, I go to the hospital, and the truck driver has to wash his vehicle.
