Johny's PSA #1: Eat more fat!

Here's a short story about a diet change I made 2 weeks ago.

Prior to 2 weeks ago, I'd guestimate I was riding about 4-5 hrs/week. My diet was less consistent, but generally very fruit/veggie heavy. The problem was that I was ALWAYS hungry. I'd eat non-stop from the time I got to work until I left. Usually the 2 hr wait from leaving work to riding my bike would cause me to be so hungry I couldn't go ride and would have to make dinner.

So a couple weekends ago, I was talking to a nutritionist. After describing the situation immediately she said, "Eat more fat".

So the diet change:
Breakfast: moved to 2% milk from skim -> more fat.
Lunch: Small sandwhich with cheese and hummus (both healthy fats). Salad with spinach, strawberry, nuts (fat), feta (fat), dressing (fat), avocado (fat).
Snack: Apple slices with peanutbutter (fat) and honey.
Dinner: Omletish thing with veggies and lean meat. includes cheese, olive oil, eggs, and avocado for some healthy fats.

The difference has been night and day. I went from a state of constant hungriness to being sated almost all day. My riding time is up, and typically I'm not even hungry for dinner after my rides; though I still eat. The weight is coming off too.

I've never given much credence to nutrition before because no matter how hard I trained or how much I ate, my body fat percentage and weight didn't change very much - despite getting faster. Now I'm a believer, and while I'll never be the guy counting out rice grains, I will pay more attention to my diet from this point forward.

What diet changes have given you a night and day difference?
