I guess they're like any other body of water...if it is moving it will tend to be cleaner than if it is stagnant. Mine get used frequently enough that I usually don't worry about cleaning them all that often.
I do like the Camelbak Podiums...only bottle I've found worth paying for, especially the insulated ones. But that Specialized dealie looks interesting, I'd like to see one in person.
