Increasing protein. When I was in school and started riding about 10 hours a week (the highest volume I've ever managed consistently).A couple months I started feeling really flat, the legs just empty. A very serious cyclist friend suggested I needed more protein in my diet. I had been trying to be all healthy by eating tons of vegetables and grains, and not a lot else. Being on a student budget I added whopper to my lunch every day for a week (along with other changes). By the end of that week I felt much better. Since I've made a point to make sure I'm consistently getting protein (no more whoppers, though), and I've never had that feeling again. Of course, maybe that's just because I've never found the time to train that much again.
And to add to the general bacon frenzy: I've gone old school lately and started frying eggs in bacon fat now and then. There's a tasty way to get your daily fat ration.
