That's a fair question. The '51 Raleigh brochures show the dynos on the right, I was wondering whether it was an export market thing. North Americans drive on the right side of the road, so bike lamps and brackets would dress a bike on the left etc.
I looked at Sheldon Brown, and his site quotes an older SA Catolog:
SPECIAL NOTE. - GH6 hubs prior to 1952 had the adjusting cone on the dynamo side. This cone is extended to pass through the armature body and is flatted at the outer end to take (K428) notched adjuster washer, by means of which the cone may be turned.
The adjusting cone should be on the left side, so I gather that the dynamo should be on the left. Kurt would know for sure. The lights can go anywhere.
