Nothing heretic about any of that IMHO.
It looked like quite a big drop to the bar-end shifters so I can imagine STIs are more convenient in this application.
All very sensible mods, tastefully done, and the important thing is the bike is getting lots of use and you´re enjoying it!
Glad you like the half-mudguards, I hated mine. I could never get the bloody things to sit right without fouling the tyres.
