When I lived on Guam there was a very high amount of roaming dogs, owned and not. Either people become fearful or thick skinned and I chose the latter. The most effective ways of breaking chase boiled down to coming up with a way to shake the focus. Partner in distant follow to zoom in was my favorite, followed by the sudden lateral movement or the frontal charge. In an occasional scenario the Stop flat and stare, no barking can really unnerve them.

The ultimate entertaining one was a dog that lived on a corner that I could speed around, cars parked along the curb and one was the owner's. I would go around and the dog would wait to chase alongside and attempt to bite my foot. Since the neighborhood was a block conducive to laps, one day I made a few passes with increased chase intensity. Eventually, he was barking and chasing then "WHAMP"

He hit his owner's truck hard enough to make the vehicle rock. He did that again a week later and never bothered chasing bikes after that.
