Quality of finish on the ones I have is excellent. Whoever put that bike together was not spending top dollar but was making good choices. And look up the name Zunow---though some hate the paint jobs, it's a very highly regarded and fairly rare bike. You definitely did just great.
80's Specialized hubs were the shiznit, mainly because they were high quality cartridge bearing hubs that were bombproof. The cartridge bearings could be punched out of the hub shell and replaced easily. They were freewheel only hubs, and would work just fine today. I think I still have the Bearing removal tools, too!
