I have Apex on my Felt F75X and, trust me, it can handle nasty conditions and crashes. I used the Apex comonents I could from a car crash that totaled one of my bikes, replacing the rest of the group (left shifter & crank). Sub-Zero has served all through winter with these components and is shifting just fine still.
SRAM Apex is great a cyclocross as well.
