Yes, they are coded. It latches on to the first HRM, cadence/speed and power meter it sees. Otherwise a peloton would be ANT+ chaos. The big problem is if you forget to sync it before meeting a group, you have to ride 50 ft away from any rider so that it only picks up yours.
