You don't have many options with a 24 inch wheel. If you're lucky you may come across a set of Alex wheels that originally came on a 24" Trek or Specialized. But those will be hard to find, the same for tires, not a lot of options.
The recommendation to ride the bike as is and save your money for a LBS bike is the best option.
