Cat 4 Tour of Walla Walla.
Crit: Crits really aren’t my bag. My original goal was to help protect a teammate and get him into position for the sprint, but he popped and dropped, so I sat in for a pack finish. 40-something-ith of 65
TT: 23:03 which worked out to a 24.3 mph. I was averaging 25 on my practice route, which was 3miles longer with the same amount of incline. I wasn’t really happy with my TT performance. I’ll have to keep working on that. 22nd
RR: First lap was going great until the very end when I jammed the chain in my FD, and had to get off the bike and futz with it for a while before yanking it out (bending the derailleur in the process) I got lucky that the pack wasn’t going too fast at that point and I managed catch back up. I was going to just finish the race on my big ring because I didn’t trust the derailleur, but I got on with a breakaway, and knew I wouldn’t be able to stick with them without going down to the small ring, so I took a chance and shifted. After the top of the hill, the chain dropped as I shifted back to the big ring, I put the chain back on, and caught on to the chase group, and finished the last 2/3 laps on the big ring, but managed to stick with the chase group. We never caught the break, I ended up in 11th for the RR and 15th for the GC. All things considered, I can live with that. The race itself was a good time and the weather was perfect, so it was a weekend well spent.
