My new bike for this is a Trek 7.2 FX, geared up with my old commuting racks, a Brooks B17, and Nashbar Trekking Bars. I am fortunate to have some flat, quiet country roads nearby, and have had some great rides of 8, 15 and 30 miles already. A stem swap and lots of tweaking to the bars and seat have got me pretty comfortable on it.

Looks like a great set-up for some touring.
